Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) has announced a new initiative in the state, the “Second Amendment Summer Tax Holiday,” which will allow Floridians to purchase ammunition and firearms in the state tax-free.
Under the new sales tax holiday, firearms, ammunition, and other related accessories will be available for purchase in the Sunshine State without added sales tax.
DeSantis shared at a press conference, “We are unveiling ‘Second Amendment Summer Tax Holiday.’”
“So from Memorial Day to til the Fourth of July, you can get your ammunition, your firearms, and your accouterments tax-free in the state of Florida.”

DeSantis announced that through the “Focus on Fiscal Responsibility” budget proposal, the firearms-related sales tax holiday is projected to save Floridians $8 million.
DeSantis also told reporters he expected the proposal “to be wildly popular” and is not anticipating pushback from the Florida Legislature.
“Why would they want to fight back on that? This is something that their voters would expect them to support,” DeSantis said.
The new tax holiday joins other efforts to boost spending in other sectors, including a new sales tax holiday for marine fuel and others that have been in place before, such as those covering disaster preparedness, back-to-school shopping, and “Freedom Month” to encourage outdoor activities such as camping and fishing.
