Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick on “Fox News Sunday” with Shannon Bream 6/1/25
Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick was on “Fox News Sunday” with Shannon Bream to discuss President Trump’s strategy regarding tariff policies.
“What is the backup plan?” Bream asked regarding rulings against Trump’s tariff policies.
“So, Congress gives the President under this IEEPA authority, the ability to take on other countries who are creating a national emergency,” Lutnick said.
“It’s gutting our manufacturing base. The President takes that on and Congress lets him do it, specifically does not vote to take it away,” Lutnick said.
“We are gonna take that up to higher courts. The President is going to win like he always does,” Lutnick continued.
“Rest assured, tariffs are not going away. He has so many other authorities,” Lutnick continued.
“It is on appeal, so we’ll see what the potentially Supreme Court has to say about it,” Bream commented.
“So, have you lost leverage? And where are we on the talks with the EU?” Bream asked regarding tariffs.
“So, the President said he is gonna put a 50 percent tariff on the EU,” Lutnick said.
“All of the countries that are negotiating with us understand the power of Donald Trump and his ability to protect the American worker,” Lutnick continued.
Secretary Lutnick explained that the setback was temporary and that President Trump’s plan will move forward.
“I think it cost us a week, maybe, maybe cost us a week, but then everybody came right back to the table,” Lutnick commented.
