Eddie Glaude, an Ivy League critical race theory and African American studies professor at Princeton, went on MSNBC on Monday to condemn President Trump’s federalization of DC’s Metropolitan Police Department, blaming racism and Jeffrey Epstein for the move.
“I’m trying to hold my temper,” Glaude told MSNBC’s Chris Jansing in response to the President’s comments during a press conference earlier. “I think there’s an ongoing argument that he’s having in his head with Black Lives Matter.”
It should be noted that in 2021, over 96% of suspects in Washington, DC homicides and nonfatal shootings were black, according to a National Institute for Criminal Justice Reform report.
“He really doesn’t really care about what’s actually happening in DC… because he’s not trying to get at the underlying root causes,” Glaude continued.
As The Gateway Pundit reported, President Trump announced on Monday that he is taking federal control over DC’s Metropolitan Police Department and authorizing the use of national guard troops to solve the “public safety emergency” in the nation’s capital.
Trump also called on Republicans in Congress to change the statutes to get rid of “no cash bail” and “some of the other things” that empower criminals in DC and other major cities across the nation.
“This city will no longer be a sanctuary for illegal alien criminals. We will have full, seamless, integrated cooperation at all levels of law enforcement, and we’ll deploy officers across the district with an overwhelming presence,” Trump said.
United States Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro went off earlier on the “young punks” that are terrorizing the city and revealed that minors are not even being prosecuted for violent crime but, instead, receiving a slap on the wrist and released back into the community.

But Glaude seems to think that beefing up the police force and punishing law violators will only make the problem worse and will not effectively “address rising crime rates.”
He says, “Let’s look at what’s happening, actually, in places like Baltimore and Chicago,” where similar soft-on-crime policies, like cashless bail and elimination of pretrial detention, have made the cities safehavens for criminals and gangsters.
For example, as The Gateway Pundit reported, an illegal alien in Chicago who was released from prison under Illinois’s SAFE-T Act, which eliminated cash bail in all criminal cases, prohibited pretrial detention in most cases, and hindered police from doing their jobs to protect public safety, was arrested and charged with hiding the body of a missing woman for nearly two months.
In Baltimore, where residents are plagued by out-of-control youths, car theft, break-ins, and gang violence, six people were injured in a shooting on Saturday night, The Gateway Pundit reported.

Jansing: “Whatever the hell they want,” as if police have been not doing anything before this, Eddie. What do you make of that, “whatever the hell they want?”
Glaude: Chris, to be honest with you, I’m trying to hold my temper. I think there’s an ongoing argument that he’s having in his head with Black Lives Matter. There’s an ongoing argument that he’s having with the questions around criminal justice reform and police reform. It’s interesting that he really doesn’t really care about what’s actually happening in DC, in a certain— on a certain level, because he’s not trying to get at the underlying root causes. He’s not looking at examples that– of how to address rising crime rates that doesn’t require a form of policing that leads to increased incarcerality and the like.
Let’s look at what’s going on in Baltimore. Let’s look at what’s happening, actually, in places like Baltimore and Chicago, right? So part of what we have to do is to understand— and Oakland! We have to understand this, Chris, within the context of Donald Trump’s racial politics and within the context of his effort to get Epstein off the front pages. I understand David’s point, but when we try to treat this as a rational response, then we lose sight of the actual politics that’s, that’s, that’s being played here. And he’s he’s actually trying to give his base red meat to get them off of the Epstein story, and it’s on the backs of citizens in Washington, DC. He’s going to undermine the democratic process in the district. And so I understand what David is trying to say, but we need to be clear about what Donald Trump is doing.
