New details have been released on the attack at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Friday, including that the shooter fired 180 shots during the incident.
The shooter, Patrick Joseph White, 30, claimed the COVID-19 vaccine had caused him to become depressed and suicidal. He died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound at the scene, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation announced on Tuesday.

“Evidence in this event indicates that the shooter had recently verbalized thoughts of suicide, which even led to law enforcement being contacted several weeks prior to the incident,” Georgia Bureau of Investigation Director Chris Hosey said during a press conference.
Hosey said that six different buildings were damaged during the attack, and 150 windows were shot out.
Five guns and “over 500 shell casings” were found at the scene, Hosey said.
Hosey also said law enforcement found “written documentation that expressed the shooter’s discontent with the COVID-19 vaccinations” at his home.
DeKalb County Police Officer David Rose, 33, was killed during the attack. He leaves behind a pregnant wife and two daughters.
Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens said in a statement, “We grieve alongside his family. My heart goes out to the entire DeKalb county government and police department. Officer Rose’s passing is a stark reminder that every day, law enforcement officers put themselves in harm’s way to protect others, and this dedication deserves our respect and gratitude.”

No civilians were injured.
Dickens had initially described White as “a known person that may have some interests in certain things, that I can’t reiterate right know with any confidence until the investigation is fully conducted.”
A neighbor of the suspect told NBC News, “White had expressed anti-vaccine sentiments to her on multiple occasions. She said he told her he believed the Covid vaccine had made him ill.”
The shooting began when White attempted to enter the CDC campus but was stopped by security guards. He then opened fire from a CVS drugstore across the street, targeting multiple CDC buildings. A 911 call reported an active shooter at the pharmacy.
Responding officers encountered White, resulting in an exchange of gunfire. The gunman attempted to leave the CVS after firing shots at the locked door, but was unable to exit. He was later found dead on the second floor of the store.
White wore a surgical mask during the shooting.
