As billionaire Elon Musk dismantles the Marxist deep state at agencies like USAID, and President Trump signals about doing the same at the Department of Education, conservative activists are working to do the same for local governments.
In one Michigan County, conservatives are fighting an ongoing war with moderate Republicans to eliminate these far-left programs.
They are using a variety of tactics, including censures, protests, lawsuits, and recruiting candidates to take out these controversial left-wing programs.
“These programs are not just funding our campaign defeats, they are dividing the country and polluting the minds of the youth,” said Ottawa County Republican Party Accountability Director John DeBlaay to the Gateway Pundit.
“We are in a do or DEI situation. Either we take a scalpel and cut this Communist crap out of our County like Musk is doing or we let these Bolsheviks poison the minds of our kids. Those are the stakes.”
An estimated 56% of local governments in America have some kind of “Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion” program, popularly known as “DEI.”
There are an estimated 90,837 local governmental units in America, representing Counties, Towns, Cities, across the nation.
DeBlaay claims that even in his deep-red Ottawa County, they have found hundreds of thousands of dollars being given with no accountability to far-left organizations.
“The County is funding a group called Community SPOKE, and another called Lakeshore Non-Profit Alliance. These groups are funding far-left activity, and they’re being paid for by Republican taxpayers who thought they elected Republican County Commissioners. I simply can’t let this stand, these fake NGO’s need to be defunded and frankly I think the County needs to be federally defunded until it happens,” said DeBlaay.
To that end, DeBlaay and others have, this past week, officially censured the elected Republicans who are funding these DEI-related non-profits and entities in their County budget.
The left has framed the fight against DEI as one about ‘free speech’ where the right of leftists to speak far-left Marxist talking points with taxpayer dollars is protected speech. In an article, the American Civil Liberties Union “ACLU” said this about DEI:
Anti-DEI activists like Christopher Rufo consistently frame their attack as a strike against “identity politics,” and have weaponized the term “DEI” to reference any ideas and policies they disagree with, especially those that address systemic racism or sexism.
In Ottawa County, the conservative Trump faction is battling with the NeverTrump moderate faction.
The County Republican Party has been taken over by pro-Trump activists, but the elected officials have been heavily supported by the well-financed NeverTrump major donors.
The notorious DeVos family gave a reported ‘blank check’ to the RINOs opposing the conservatives.
The DeVos family makes roughly a third of its annual profits from business partnerships with Communist China.
The MAGA activists discovered that the DeVos family owns buildings in the County that are being leased to the government and offices that are empty.
They also believe that these far-left outfits are funneling money to campaigns and activists that are propping up the political power of the establishment.
But even defeated and out of power, the pro-Trump conservatives are fighting to eliminate America-destroying policies and funding from their $280 million County budget.
On the other side of Michigan, activist Monica Yatooma is fighting DEI programs in the Oakland County budget. Oakland County has 1.27 million residents and a $1.08 billion budget to provide services. Yatooma claims to have found far-left DEI programs and policies throughout the local government and especially in the school systems.
A 2023 report by the Pew Research Center indicated at least a third of school districts across America had DEI programs active.
Yatooma is the Director of Partner Relations for a group called the Great Education Initiative that empowers parents to identify and remove far-left toxic DEI programming from government schools. Yatooma and the Great Education Initiative filed a federal Title IX lawsuit on behalf of their members across Michigan.
Yatooma told the Gateway Pundit, “Parents are beyond frustrated with school boards that continue to ignore their pleas to keep biological males out of girls’ sports. Schools claim that these policies promote inclusivity, but in reality, allowing biological males to compete against female athletes is anything but inclusive. They may present it as part of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), but let’s call it what it really is—pure misogyny.”
Yatooma added, “I feel grateful, thankful, hopeful, and appreciative that Trump is honoring his commitments, dismantling DEI, and laying the foundation for a promising future for our children.”
DeBlaay and Yatooma and others confirmed that there is no national organization or group assisting their efforts, these are all organic grassroots efforts by outraged local parents.
Just last week, the Trump Education Department announced that it is seeking to remove DEI from the nation’s curriculum. President Trump has nominated Linda McMahon to be the Secretary of Education, but her nomination has been held up on required paperwork prior to Senate hearings and possible confirmation.
Meshawn Maddock is running for Michigan Republican Party Chair, and has been endorsed by the Gateway Pundit.
She relates that in her travels across Michigan’s 83 Counties she is running into increasing numbers of parents who are fighting DEI in their schools and local governments, who have been woken up on this issue.
“A big part of the Trump wave this past year, especially in Michigan, has clearly been the left-wing insanity pushed by Biden and Democrats to force DEI Marxism on children,” Maddock told the Gateway Pundit. “I see it everywhere, cities and rural areas, people are sick and tired of this toxic far-left agenda in the schools and in government. They want kids to have a childhood without these divisive and destructive ideas, and they’re getting into politics to stop these left-wing groomer predators. The Democrats revealed that they’re coming for our kids, and so parents are now coming for them.”
Maddock added, “Elon Musk is showing us it can be done. Trump is telling us to fight. We now know we can fight the left and win, and our kids deserve it. We need to rip out D.E.I. cancer at every level.”
