Rep. Jim Jordan DESTROYS Denver’s Sanctuary Mayor in Brutal Five-Minute Takedown (VIDEO)

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) delivered a scorching rebuke of Denver Mayor Mike Johnston over his city’s reckless sanctuary policies that put American lives—and federal law enforcement—at risk.

The mayors of the most pro-illegal immigrant cities, including Michelle Wu of Boston, Brandon Johnson of Chicago, Mike Johnston of Denver, and Eric Adams of New York, testified Wednesday morning before the House Oversight Committee.

Jordan came out swinging, grilling Johnston over Abraham Gonzales, a Venezuelan gang member arrested by Border Patrol in September 2023 and released into the U.S. thanks to the Biden regime’s open-border disaster.

Fast forward to Denver, where this thug racked up charges like aggravated assault, motor vehicle theft, and felony menacing—all within months. On March 26, 2024, Jordan’s team sent Denver a detainer, begging for a simple 48-hour heads-up before releasing this menace back into society.

What did Johnston’s sanctuary city do? They gave ICE a measly one-hour notice and let Gonzales loose—straight into a confrontation that left an ICE officer assaulted.

Jordan grilled Johnston on why his city ignored a federal detainer request from ICE—a simple ask for a 48-hour heads-up before releasing this menace.

“You had him in custody for 345 days,” Jordan said. “I said, ‘Hey, can you give us 48 hours?’ You gave them one hour. One hour!”

Johnston claimed Denver “notified” ICE, but the truth came out: the city dumped Gonzales into the parking lot with a measly 60-minute warning, forcing six ICE agents to scramble and apprehend him. The result? One officer assaulted, forcing officers to deploy tasers.

“If you’d held him inside, it’d take two officers, not six,” Jordan said. “But you won’t do it that way—because you’re a sanctuary city.”

Johnston tried to spin his way out, claiming Denver doesn’t “shield” people from law enforcement and touting 1,226 releases without incident. But Jordan wasn’t buying the sanctimonious drivel.

“I’m asking about one—Mr. Abraham Gonzales, gang member, car thief, assaulter,” Jordan shot back. “An officer got assaulted because of your policy!”

The mayor’s pathetic offer to “sit down with ICE” and tweak procedures after the fact only fueled Jordan’s fire. Too little, too late.

Jordan then slammed Johnston with the cold, hard truth—sanctuary policies don’t make cities safer. In fact, they make them more dangerous, especially for law enforcement officers who are forced to clean up the mess that Democratic leaders create.

Jordan: I read your written testimony last night—four and a half pages. You used the words “safe,” “safer,” or “safety” 13 times, talking about, “My job is to protect this business, the safety of the people in Denver. We prioritize making sure everyone in our community is safe.” That’s a lie. Because it was not safer for the ICE agents who are part of your community. No way was it safer.

The safest thing to do is to say, “ICE, we got him in custody. Come here, we’re releasing him.” We held him 345 days. We can’t hold him a second longer? We can’t wait for you to come inside the building? We have to let him go, so you have to arrest him in the parking lot?

That is how stupid sanctuary policies are and what they mean to the community that you put at risk—and to the ICE officer who was assaulted.

Jim Jordan just ripped the Mayor of Denver APART for five minutes straight.

“Who’s Abraham Gonzalez?”

Mayor Johnston: “He is an individual that was released from the county jail on Friday in the City and County of Denver.”
